Gender equality is based on a fundamental principle that everyone should receive equal treatment and no one should be discriminated on the basis of gender. Equal access to education, health care, decent work and representation in political and economic decision-making process is a necessary factor to be provided to girls and it enhances in the development of the society at large. At the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit on 25 September 2015, world leaders adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which includes a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change by 2030. Sustainable Development Goals under Goal 5: “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls” focuses on the eradication of the suffering, discrimination and violence of women in every parts of the world. In this regard, conducting a speech competition on any topic under gender equality would help understand and encourage adolescent girls to research on the particular topic and provide a platform to present them on the issue of gender equality. They will know about the facts, figures and the situation of gender equality in the world including Nepal. Thus, the project basically focuses on conducting a girl’s speech competition on any of the topic on gender equality.
